There is growing evidence to show that exposure to air pollution affects our brain chemistry. Causing oxidative stress and inflammation, air pollution has been linked to Alzheimer’s, Schizophrenia, Autism and Parkinson’s disease. And now scientists from the UK have uncovered more information to support this theory. The article, published in the journal JAMA Psychiatry, claims that teenagers exposed to high levels of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM2.5) had an increased risk of experiencing a psychotic episode, such as a feeling of being watched or hearing voices.

Now you may think its only people living in highly contaminated environments, such as close to freeways, factories and industry, who are at risk. But I’m afraid you’d be wrong. Dangerously high levels of Nitrogen Dioxide and PM2.5 can be found in many of our homes. The biggest source of Nitrogen Dioxide indoors is the gas stove. But any form of gas appliance can emit Nitrogen Dioxide. Water heaters, fireplaces, gas furnaces and generators can all be responsible for the presence of Nitrogen Dioxide in the home.

Are you concerned about air quality in your home? Are you worried it may be affecting the health of your family? Consider investing in an Austin Air Purifier. Our air purifiers effectively remove the pollutants named in this study, PM2.5, Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx). In fact Austin Air was selected by one of the country’s top universities, Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, to take part in a study, to reduce levels of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) in the homes of people with gas stoves. Within a week, levels of NO2 had dropped considerably. Austin Air purifiers are the only clinically proven, medical grade air purifiers on the market.
